ATS to Investigate Madrassas Along Nepal Border for Illegal Activities
Authorities have initiated an in-depth investigation into madrassas located along the Nepal border, following concerns of possible illegal activities. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been tasked with conducting the investigation to ensure that these madrassas are not involved in unlawful practices and are compliant with educational regulations.
The district welfare officer had earlier formed six teams in September 2023 to carry out preliminary surveys of madrassas in the region. A total of 491 madrassas were checked during this survey, but 290 of them were found to be running without proper registration. Further investigation has now been handed over to the ATS to look into potential security concerns.
This move comes after several irregularities were reported, such as unregistered madrassas operating without following government mandates. The ATS teams will visit madrassas to verify their registration documents, teacher credentials, and funding sources. The investigation will span across the border areas to prevent any illicit activities that could compromise national security.
The ATS is expected to submit its report soon, and the findings could lead to further action, including shutting down unregistered madrassas or taking legal steps if necessary. This process aims to ensure that education provided in these institutions aligns with the law and doesn’t pose a threat to the country’s internal security.
