Jhansi: Agricultural scientists from the Rani Lakshmibai Central Agricultural University have raised concerns about the increasing pest attacks on paddy crops in the region. Dr. Yogendra Kumar Mishra and Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Singh emphasized the need for farmers to be vigilant, as the hopper insect is causing significant damage to the rice plants.
These pests, particularly the hopper larvae, attack the stems and leaves, sucking the sap and weakening the plants. Affected parts of the crop show signs of burned patches, which can lead to crop destruction if not addressed quickly. The scientists urged farmers to closely monitor their fields for insect infestations, advising them to be cautious of any mosquito-like insects sticking to the plants.
The current weather conditions have created a favorable environment for these pests, putting the rice crops at a greater risk of brown plant hoppers. Immediate action is crucial to prevent widespread damage.
