Bengaluru: India’s experienced fast bowler, Mohammad Shami, gave positive signals during his practice session on Sunday in Bengaluru. Shami bowled in the nets for about an hour without any discomfort. The 34-year-old pacer is recovering from ankle surgery that he underwent at the beginning of the year.
Shami bowled under the supervision of bowling coach Morné Morkel after India’s first Test match against New Zealand. His last appearance for India was during the final of the 2023 ICC World Cup.
During the practice, Shami bowled to India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar. Shami had his left leg wrapped in bandages, but despite starting with a short run-up, he soon extended it and bowled with good pace and rhythm. In between, Shami engaged with Nayar on his swing deliveries, testing Nayar’s skills.
Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma mentioned that Shami was not fully fit, and the team was cautious about taking any risks by including him in the upcoming tour of Australia.
