In Jhansi, approximately 6,000 tuberculosis (TB) patients are currently under special medical surveillance. Along with treatment, the government is providing these patients with financial support to ensure their well-being.
Free Treatment for TB
Treatment for TB in government hospitals and under the “Doctor Supervision” scheme is entirely free of cost. The treatment usually lasts between 6 months to 2 years, depending on the patient’s condition. Along with medication, patients are advised to maintain a healthy diet, practice regular exercise, and lead a normal life.
Current TB Situation in Jhansi
As of 2023, Jhansi has reported 8,764 TB cases. Among these, 7,726 patients have been fully cured through treatment. Currently, 5,986 patients are undergoing treatment, and active monitoring is being conducted to track progress.
Village-Level TB-Free Initiatives
In Jhansi district, there are 496 gram panchayats. Every village with a population of over 1,000 is being monitored for TB. In these villages, 36 gram panchayats have already been declared TB-free. A special screening process checks 30 individuals per 1,000 population, and patients diagnosed with TB receive a free TB treatment card from the village health centers.
During a recent inspection, 44 active cases were found in the TB-free villages, and these patients are receiving free treatment. Moreover, gram panchayat heads and local leaders are being honored for achieving the TB-free village status.
Nutritional Support Under Ni-Kshay Scheme
Under the Ni-Kshay Scheme, TB patients receive ₹500 per month to support their nutritional needs during the treatment period. The government is ensuring that proper nutrition and free medication are provided to these patients under doctor supervision.
